Scorpion builds a lot of helmets, and it does not build a different shield for every one of them. That is the whole reason finding visors that fit Scorpion helmets is confusing: the model name printed on your lid is often not the name printed on the visor that fits it. One shield part will cover half a dozen models, and two different shield parts will sometimes both be listed against the same model.
This guide ranks the seven shared-shield fitment groups in our Scorpion catalogue, from the one covering the most models to the one covering the fewest. Every model list below was read from the live product pages this morning, not from a manufacturer chart.

How visors that fit Scorpion helmets are actually grouped
A helmet shield is a moulded part with a mechanism at each side. What decides whether it fits is the shape of that mechanism and the curve of the aperture, and Scorpion has reused a handful of those across many years and many model names. So the useful question is never “what visor fits the EXO-491” in isolation. It is “which shield family does the EXO-491 belong to”.
Once you know the family, tint becomes a free choice within it. A clear shield and a dark smoke shield from the same family share the same mechanism, so if one fits, the other fits. That is why the groups below list tints as a property of the family rather than of the individual helmet.
There is one wrinkle worth stating plainly, because it is the thing most fitment charts hide. A few Scorpion models sit in more than one group. The EXO-390 and the EXO-491 are both listed against the wide EXO-1200 shield and against the EXO-R2000 shield, which are separate parts. Both are listed as fitting, and the sensible move is to open the model category and look at what is actually there.

Read the table as a map, not a scoreboard. A group ranking seventh is not a worse visor; it covers one helmet because Scorpion gave that helmet its own shield. If your lid is an EXO-R420, group seven is the only row on this page that matters to you.
1. The EXO-1200 family — seven models on one shield
This is the widest-fitting shield we stock for a Scorpion lid. A single replacement part is listed against the EXO-1200, EXO-2000 Air, EXO-390, EXO-410, EXO-491, EXO-510 and EXO-710, which is seven separate model categories served by one moulding. It is also the only family alongside group two where all three shield types are stocked.

2. The EXO-R2000 family — the same breadth, a different seven
Group two matches group one on raw model count and on shield types, and it is a completely different part. One shield covers the EXO-390, EXO-491, EXO-R2000, EXO-R410, EXO-R710, EXO-T1200 and EXO-T510. It ranks second only because there are fewer separate visor listings sitting behind its model categories, which is the tie-break this page uses.

This group is where the two-groups problem bites hardest. Two of its seven models are shared with group one, and the T-series models here are easy to confuse with the R-series models in group three. An EXO-T510 sits in this group and in group three; a plain T520 does not sit in either, it sits in group five.

3. The EXO-T510 family — six models, two shield types
Group three covers the EXO-T510, R2000, R320, R410, Ryzer and T1200. Six models on one shield puts it third on breadth, and it drops below the top two only because there is no anti-fog insert cut for this family in our catalogue.
That absence is worth planning around rather than working around. If you own one of these six and you ride through British winters, the fogging answer for you is not an insert; it is airflow management and a photochromic or clear shield kept properly clean.
The replacement visor for the EXO-T510 family is listed in smoke, clear and silver — a different tint spread from groups one and two, with no iridium option and a silver mirror instead.
A photochromic shield for the same six models is stocked, which is the practical way to cover changing light on this family. Owners of the less common models in the group can go straight to the Ryzer visor category or the R320 visor category.
4. The EXO-1400 family — fewer models, the deepest catalogue
Group four covers four models: the EXO-1400 and EXO-1400 Carbon, the EXO-391, the EXO-520 and the R1 Air. On the ranking criterion used here it places fourth, and that ranking deserves a caveat, because by sheer number of listings this is the deepest Scorpion family we carry.
Those two facts are not in conflict. Breadth counts how many different helmets one shield fits; depth counts how many variants exist for those helmets. This family is narrow and deep, which is exactly what you would expect from Scorpion’s best-selling sport line.

5. The EXO-R1 family — four models, gold in the tint list
Group five covers the EXO-R1, EXO-R1 EVO, ST1400 and T520. It is a four-model family with two shield types stocked, and its tint spread is the outlier in the range: smoke, clear and gold rather than the iridium, smoke and clear you see in most other groups.
The replacement visor for the EXO-R1 family carries those three tints. A photochromic shield for the same four models is also stocked.
Naming is the hazard in this group and it catches people out regularly. The ST1400 here is not the EXO-1400 in group four, and the T520 here is not the EXO-T520 or the EXO-T510. Those are separate helmets on separate shields despite the near-identical names.
When the names are this close, the model category is the only safe way in. Start at the EXO-R1 visor category or the ST1400 visor category and work from the helmet you own rather than from the part number you half-remember.
6. The Covert-X family — three models, and the only insert outside the EXO line
Group six is the Covert-X, EXO-Combat and EXO-Combat Evo. These are the open and modular-styled lids in the range rather than the full-face sport helmets, and they run their own shield.

There is no photochromic shield for this family, which is the reason it sits sixth rather than higher. There is, however, an anti-fog insert for the Covert-X and EXO-Combat — worth knowing, because the EXO-Combat Evo is not on that insert’s model list even though it shares the replacement shield.
That is a real and slightly awkward distinction rather than a typo, and it is the kind of thing a fitment chart flattens. Check the Covert-X visor category or the EXO-Combat visor category for what is currently listed against your exact lid.
7. The EXO-R420 family — one model, its own shield
Group seven covers exactly one helmet. The EXO-R420 does not share a shield with anything else in the Scorpion range we stock, so it gets its own entry and its own parts.
Ranking it last is a statement about breadth and nothing else. For an EXO-R420 owner this is the only row on the page with any bearing on your helmet, and a single-model fitment is arguably the easiest of the seven to shop, because there is no ambiguity to resolve at all.

Choosing a tint, and what UK law actually tests
Tint is the decision most people get wrong, and the reason is that almost every popular summary of the rules is wrong about what is being tested. The law does not classify visors by colour or by tint name. It works from the marking on the individual eye protector.
The Motor Cycles (Eye Protectors) Regulations 1999 prescribe grades in British Standard BS 4110 and require that a protector be marked with an approved certification mark of an approved body. BS 4110 is the visor standard. It is worth being precise about that, because BS 6658 is frequently quoted in the same breath and it is a helmet standard, not a visor one.
The consequence for a shop is direct. Under section 18 of the Road Traffic Act 1988, a seller commits an offence by offering an eye protector as authorised for use when it is not of a prescribed type. We do not inspect the marking on each individual item, so we describe what a tint does to light and leave the legal status to the marking on the part in your hands.
What can be said plainly is the general position on the dark end of the range. Iridium and mirrored finishes transmit too little light to be legal for road use in the UK, day or night, and dark smoke sits in the same territory. Those tints exist for track and off-road riding, and that is how the groups above should be read.

The Highway Code rules for motorcyclists add a maintenance expectation on top of the legal one. Rule 83 tells riders to check before each journey that the helmet visor is clean and in good condition. Rule 84 notes that scratched or poorly fitting eye protectors can limit your view, particularly in bright sunshine and in the hours of darkness. A badly scratched clear shield can be a worse road hazard than a light tint.
What to check before you order
Work from the helmet, not from the visor. The single most common ordering mistake in this range is matching a shield to a remembered part number rather than to the model on the lid, and the Scorpion naming scheme punishes that badly.
Confirm the exact model name, including the suffix
An EXO-R1 and an EXO-R1 EVO are the same family; an EXO-1400 and an ST1400 are not. Suffixes like Air, EVO and Carbon sometimes matter and sometimes do not, and there is no rule that predicts which. The model category page is the only reliable check.
Decide whether you need one shield or two
If you ride in genuinely mixed light, a photochromic shield replaces the swap. If your riding is mostly daylight with occasional evenings, a clear shield plus a dark one for track use is often the cheaper route, and both live in the same family so both will fit.
Check the insert question early
Three of the seven groups have no anti-fog insert cut for them. If fogging is your main problem, that fact should shape which shield you buy rather than being discovered afterwards. Groups one, two and four are the families where an insert is available.
Use the finder if two groups both look right
For the EXO-390, the EXO-491 and the EXO-T510, two different shield parts are genuinely listed as fitting. The visor finder resolves that from the helmet end in a few seconds, which is faster and more reliable than reading part numbers across two product pages.
Fitting the new shield without damaging it
Scorpion mechanisms across these seven families are quick-release designs, and the swap is a two-minute job when the part is right. It is also where a correct part gets scratched or a wrong part gets forced, so it is worth doing deliberately the first time.
Work on a soft surface with the helmet on its side rather than in your lap. Open the shield to its highest position, which is where the release catch on each side is designed to be reachable, and release one side fully before touching the other. Trying to free both at once is what bends the mechanism.
The new shield seats the same way in reverse: locate one side, swing it into position, then press the second side home until the catch closes. You should feel it engage rather than hear it crack.
If it does not seat cleanly, stop. A shield that needs force is the wrong shield, and no amount of persuasion turns a group two part into a group five part. Trimming, heating or drilling a visor to make it fit is never the answer either, because a shield is protective equipment and any modification compromises what it is there to do.
Handle the new part by its edges while you work. The centre of a shield is the optical area you will be looking through for its whole life, and fingerprints in a fresh anti-scratch coating are much easier to avoid than to remove. One last check before you ride. Close the shield fully and look along the seal at the top edge for an even gap, then open and close it twice to confirm the detents hold at each position. A shield that lifts at speed is usually one that never fully engaged on one side.
Frequently asked questions
Will any visor listed under Scorpion fit any Scorpion helmet?
No, and this is the assumption that causes most returns. Scorpion uses at least seven distinct shield mechanisms across the models we stock, and a shield from one family will not seat correctly on a helmet from another. The model name on the helmet is what determines the family, and everything within that family is interchangeable.
Why is my helmet listed in two different fitment groups?
